A gazebo is the classic form: a defined footprint, often octagonal or square, with a peaked roof and open sides. It reads as a destination, a place you walk to. A pavilion is broader and flatter, a solid-roof structure that shelters a dining table, a kitchen, or a full outdoor living room. If you are picturing furniture and a crowd, you are probably picturing a pavilion.

Freestanding structures live or die on their footings. Our soil is soft delta ground, so we set posts in engineered footings sized for wind load, not fence-post concrete. The roof is framed and fastened for storm season, and we pull the permits your parish requires. That is the difference between a structure that shrugs off a squall and one that ends up in the neighbor’s yard.

The best pavilions we build anchor a whole outdoor plan: a patio flowing out from the house, an outdoor kitchen under the roof, a fan turning overhead, and lighting that keeps the space alive after dark. Screens can close the sides in against mosquitoes, the same way we build screen rooms on attached covers.
