Stone & Travertine Patios in New Orleans, LA

A lot of New Orleans yards are not really yards. They’re courtyards, side strips, and narrow runs between the house and the fence, and the surface underfoot does most of the work. Stone paving suits these spaces because travertine and natural stone can be cut and laid to fit odd shapes that a single concrete pour handles poorly. Surfaces That Belong Next to Old Brick

Older neighborhoods here already have a material language: worn brick walks, slate steps, iron gates. A new paved courtyard should sit comfortably beside all of that, not fight it. We bring travertine and natural stone samples to the estimate so you can set them against your existing walls and walkways in real light, which settles the material question faster than any photo. Travertine earns its keep in exposed spots since it runs cooler underfoot in direct sun, and that matters on a south-facing courtyard in August.

Flat Ground Still Needs Grading

New Orleans lots are flat, and flat is exactly how standing water likes it. Heavy downpours are routine from June through November, so we grade every patio to move water off the surface and build drainage into lots that hold it. The compacted base under the stone decides whether the patio stays flat over soft alluvial delta soil, and edge restraints keep the field locked together at the borders. When the ground shifts anyway, a segmental surface lifts and resets in place. Nobody jackhammers anything, and the repaired section matches because it’s made of the same pieces. The joints between them also let the surface flex through wet and dry cycles instead of cracking the way a rigid pour eventually does.
